The Institutional Review Board of Rashid Latif Medical College has been registered with the U.S. Department of Human Services (HHS) under IORG0008946 registration number. Our registration process with the National Bioethics Committee is under process that will be accomplished soon.

TERMS AND REFERENCES OF INSTITUTIONAL REVIEW BOARD OF RASHID LATIF MEDICAL COLLEGE

1. Background:

Rashid Latif Medical College is committed to ensuring the ethical conduct of research involving human subjects. The Institutional Review Board (IRB) is established to safeguard the rights, well-being, and confidentiality of research participants, and to ensure that research conducted within the institution meets the highest ethical standards.

2. Purpose:

The primary purpose of the IRB is to review, approve, and monitor research protocols involving human subjects. The IRB is responsible for ensuring that research complies with ethical principles, guidelines, and relevant regulations and those risks to participants are minimized.

3. Composition:

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a critical component within the framework of ethical research involving human subjects. Comprising diverse and knowledgeable members, the IRB plays a pivotal role in upholding the highest ethical standards, ensuring the protection of participants, and promoting the integrity of research conducted at institutions such as Rashid Latif Medical College.

4. Responsibilities:

Review and approve research proposals involving human subjects and experimental trials.
Ensure that informed consent is obtained from participants.
Monitor ongoing research to ensure continued compliance with ethical standards.
Investigate and address any ethical concerns raised during the research process.
Educate researchers and the community on ethical conduct in research.
Keenly observe data analysis plan and sample size through a statistician.
Periodically review and update IRB policies and procedures.

5. Submission and Review Process:

IRB meeting will be conducted at first Thursday of every month.
Researchers must submit detailed research proposals to the IRB for review before seven days of the meeting.
Researcher will submit an application to the Chairperson of IRB, a Research Submission form, Research Proposal along with consent form and data collection tool in hardcopy at research cell and will send in softcopy to the [email protected]
The IRB will conduct an initial review to assess the ethical implications of the study.
Expedited or full board reviews will be conducted based on the level of risk associated with the research.
Researchers will be notified of the IRB's decision and any required modifications.

6. Confidentiality:

All members of the IRB must maintain strict confidentiality regarding the details of research proposals and discussions during meetings. Information related to research participants must be handled with the utmost sensitivity.

7. Meetings:

The IRB will convene regular meetings to review research proposals, discuss ongoing research, and address any ethical concerns. Meetings may be called as needed to address urgent matters.

8. Record Keeping:

The IRB will maintain detailed records of all reviewed research proposals, meeting minutes, and correspondence. These records will be securely stored in compliance with applicable regulations.

9. Reporting:

The IRB will provide regular reports to the Rashid Latif Medical College administration, detailing its activities, decisions, and any significant ethical concerns.

10. Training and Education:

The IRB will facilitate training sessions for researchers, students, and staff involved in research activities to promote understanding and adherence to ethical principles.

Research Submission Protocol

Research Submission Protocol for Institutional Review Board Please follow the following steps for applying for Ethical approval from Institutional Review Board Committee of Rashid Latif Medical College: Note: Meeting of IRB will be held every month (1st week of Thursday)

  • Application to Chairman IRB Committee Format of application can be downloaded in the link below.
  • An Institutional Review Board check list need to be filled by the applicant along with research proposal. (The check list can be downloaded in the link below).
  • Online Submission of your proposal 1 week prior to the upcoming IRB meeting. Email soft copy of your proposal along with presentation to the following email address and also submit 1 hard copy of your research proposal to research wing of Medical education department [email protected] .
  • Applicant have to present his/her proposal in front of the panel members of IRB.
  • After presentation suggested observations needs to be done and revised version of proposal needs to be resubmitted again before the issuance of final Ethical approval letter.
  • The final approval will be given by the IRB Chairman and Committee members.
  • Need to fullfill all requirements mentioned above to obtain final ethical approval.
